Get Your Own Painting Scheme and Avoid the Cookie Cutter Colors

You’re a unique individual with a unique personality. I’m not about to suggest matching your personality to your exterior painting scheme, but I will say that choosing a unique, personal painting scheme is often rewarding. That’s not to say that a cheery, chipper individual should look for the brightest yellows they can find, but homeowners who stay away from generic, cookie cutter designs are typically happy that they did.
Consider your neighbors when choosing a painting scheme for your home’s exterior, of course, but don’t be afraid to choose a scheme that suits you despite what your neighbors have done with their homes. I wouldn’t choose colors that directly clash with those around you, but neighborhoods in which all homes are identical or eerily similar lack life and diversity. Neighborhoods in which residents choose their own unique schemes and ideas, on the other hand, give the neighborhood life and are typically more attractive.
Just because most of your neighbors have chosen a beige, yellowish color as their base doesn’t mean you can’t go with a light green base and add some red trim. The point is, consider all of your options and don’t limit your choices to the everyday, run of the mill cookie cutter colors and schemes out there. You may keep your neighbors in mind in avoiding that bright pink, Barbie themed home, but the choice of color and scheme for your own home should ultimately be yours and nobody else’s.
That being said, it never hurts to take a drive around the neighborhood or nearby communities to check out different schemes and perhaps get an idea or two to play around with in your head. In fact, you just might find something you like so much you emulate on your own home. Inspiration may strike anywhere and at any time so when you’re considering repainting the exterior, keep your eyes open not only to other homes, but in the park or in commercial areas as well. If you feel stuck, try consulting a painting contractor who should have enough experience to assist you in choosing a scheme for your home.
